THREE people were treated for drowning related symptoms after they were knocked over by a huge wave at Westbrook Beach on Friday, July 21.

According to the Netcare 911 the victims were on the shoreline when the incident happened.

Spokesperson for Netcare 911 Nick Dollman said in a statement: “Reports from the scene indicate that a group of five females from out of town were visiting the beach.

“Two adults made it back to shore but one adult, one 14-year-old and eight-month-old baby were in trouble in the white water. Thankfully, there were a few people around who noticed the commotion and summonsed help. “The three were rescued by an unknown surfer who brought them safely to shore.
“Netcare 911 paramedics and life guards came to assist. The first two women were shocked by the incident, but were in a stable condition and did not require immediate intervention.”

Dollman said the other three however were in need of medical attention and were treated for drowning related symptoms.

“The 14-year-old was the most serious of the three.
“All five were transported to hospital for further assessment. Later in hospital, the women described the man who came to their aid as ‘their angel who appeared out of nowhere and then disappeared a few minutes later when they were safe.’
Paramedics described the sea as rough with a high water.”
