THE Kokstad Department of Correctional Services Management Area commemorated Women’s Day at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Port Shepstone recently. The event was attended by the young and old from the area.

Mimi Mthembu, who has been a warden for more that 40 years, encouraged female wardens to be strong in their job and work hard in order to get senior positions in the department.

“Many years ago women were oppressed - some women were fired by the department if they fell pregnant,” said Mthembu.

Blankets were given to 25 senior citizens at the event.
