WARM GREETINGS TO THE KOKSTAD COMMUNITY AND COMMUNITY AT LARGE

CHRISTMAS WITH THE MAYOR

The Greater Kokstad Municipality, through special programmes, has a mandate to take care of special groups (elderly, children and disabled) within the entire municipal area of jurisdiction. This was an initiative made by the office of the mayor to celebrate Christmas with special groups on an annual basis. It started in 2017 and was declared an annual event.

The main objective of the Christmas celebrations is to provide temporary relief to the vulnerable and less fortunate Kokstad residents, to provide orphaned children with special Christmas moments, and to instil hope and joy in vulnerable groups in general by offering some items for Christmas.

The two-day event is set to take place from December 18 at Eco-Park and the focus will be on children. On December 19, the focus will shift to the elderly and disabled. The municipality welcomes anyone who may wish to contribute to this gesture as a means of giving and changing lives.

SERVICE POINTS FOR PAYMENT OF MUNICIPAL SERVICES

Community members are now being provided with alternative pay points other than municipal offices.

GKM residents are advised to make use of the following outlets to pay for municipal services — Pick ‘n Pay, FNB and PEP Stores. This will assist members to pay for their services during the busy period of festive season and beyond. To avoid the inconvenience of time and long queues at the municipal offices, make use of the other pay points.

Please take note that municipal offices will close at 12pm on December 24 and December 31 for Christmas and New Year. Essential services departments will have staff on standby to assist. Take note that electrical faults and emergencies must be reported to 039 727 5733 after hours.

NYUSIVOLUME EVENT

The Harry Gwala District Municipality in partnership with its local municipalities will be hosting a Nyusivolume event of which the main purpose is to raise awareness among community members of the abuse of drugs and alcohol. Ukhozi FM will be broadcasting live at Kokstad Central Park on December 18 as a build-up to the main event, which will be held at Ixopo Morningside stadium.

The event starts at 9am and ends at 9pm on December 19. See you there. Remember, don’t drink and drive.

Until next time…..
