A 54-YEAR-OLD teacher from a school in Matatiele was granted R1 000 bail by the Maluti Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping an 18-year-old pupil.
The conditions of his bail was that he does not go to the school until his next court date.
It is alleged that the teacher raped the pupil in June last year.
At the time the pupil was still in Grade 11 and has since progressed in her matric year.
“It is alleged that the teacher offered the pupil a lift using his private vehicle and along the way he drove the vehicle to his house and injected something into her body which made her drowsy. “
He then raped her repeatedly,” said SAPS spokesperson Captain Raphael Motloung.
He said the teacher told the victim not to tell anyone about the incident.
On March 16, the teacher was arrested after the pupil told one of the teachers at the school and social workers were informed.
He appeared in court on Monday and the case was postponed to April 18.
To protect the victim, the name of the teacher and the school will not be made public.
