WARM greetings during this Public Service Month, where we celebrate and recognise public servants who follow the Batho Pele principles - to promote transparency as we deliver services to the public.

Every year during this month we commemorate the annual Thusong Service Week and this year marks the fourth celebration.

Matatiele leadership is adamant about a lasting solution to protest

Matatiele Local Municipality leadership noted with concern the strike action that re-emerged at Matatiele this week. This after public transport operators, led by the Route 56 Matatiele Forum, blockaded roads leading to Matatiele and shut down all shops in town.

This despite last week’s meeting between the mayor and the forum leadership, where an update on the interventions carried out by the Department of Roads and Public Works were outlined.

“It is unfortunate that forum members decided to go this illegal route again, in spite of our efforts to discourage them from staging protest actions,” said Matatiele Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Momelezi Mbedla.

To the business sector, schools and all affected by these activities, please accept our sincere apologies. To echo mayor’s sentiments, we are doing all we can to ensure a lasting solution to this challenge.

Warm welcome to Eastern Cape Legislature

The Eastern Cape Legislature visited Ward 7 (Hillside) on September 13 as part of interacting with the community there. The legislature committee embarked on this exercise to allow the public to engage the law and policy on the question of socioeconomic transformation. In the last quarter, the legislature visited the area for petitions the community complained about service delivery in their ward.

Invitation to register on supplier database

Thembalethu Development (TD) invites prospective suppliers and service providers to submit their applications for registration on the Thembalethu Development Supplier Database for the supply of goods and services to the Community Work Programme (CWP). TD will source quotations from the supplier database.

CWP is a community-driven government programme in the National Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), the primary purpose of which is to create access to a minimum level of regular and predictable work for the unemployed and/or under-employed.

Thembalethu Development is contracted by Cogta as an implementing agent. As a requirement for the procurement of goods and services for the CWP, TD promotes B-BBEE initiative and advises SMMEs to apply and register on the supplier database.

Registration forms and a list of commodities can be downloaded from the Thembalethu Development website at http://www.thembalethudev.org/procurement

Suppliers must be registered on the central supplier database before being registered on Thembalethu Development Database.

Codi and Ané, we’re proud of you

After attending SA championships in George in July our own Codi Maartens (13) has been selected for the SA President’s Team to participate in the Biathle/Triathle World Championships in Spain this month.

Biathle consists of 800m run-100m-800m run while Triathle consists of laser shoot-25m swim-400m run x four laps.

Codi has prepared well for her first world champs and we trust she will perform to the best of her ability and represent Matatiele well.

Another star who we pride ourselves on is Ané van Deventer, who is representing South Africa at the World Horse Endurance race in Italy this month. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

We are a destination of excellence.
