The school outside Kokstad is one of the rural schools where most pupils travel long distance on foot when going to school.
One of the Department of Correctional Services employees, Mfuneko Mthi said the programme was initiated for pupils who had no choice but to wear old school shoes.
“I love education and I want pupils to look good at school. Wearing new shoes at school can boost confidence,” said Mthi.
He said over 200 shoes have been donated to schools in Bizana and Ntabankulu last year.
“I am always disheartened when I see pupils going to school with old shoes,” said Khalipha Dumani, the co-founder of Khulanathi NPO.
According to school principal, Nonkululo Tambo, most pupils are from poor families that depend on social grants for living.
She thanked people who have donated shoes to the school.
