WARM greetings to Kokstad residents and community at large
Urgent warning about fraudulent orders
Kokstad businesses and the community members are urged to take note of the scam that is going around of fraudulent orders which are said to come from the municipality. The municipality became aware of this criminal act after our Supply Chain Management Unit (SCM) received a call from a service provider who wanted to confirm the order number that he received with a Greater Kokstad Municipal logo. The SCM Unit request the order to be sent through for verification, unfortunately it turned out that it was fraudulent and the format used was different from the one the municipality use.
The matter was handed to SAPS Kokstad immediately. The scam unfold as follows: they give you a request for quotation, on submission of the quotation they issue an order number and further inform you that the material that they are requesting is offered by a sole provider and they give you the contact details of the provider, thereafter that sole provider will informs you to pay. Upon payment they just disappear into thin air. You are therefore urged to please be cautious of such scams because they leave one with unnecessary financial debt. We further request people to report any fraudulent activities that come under the Greater Kokstad Municipality name so that we verify information and report such to SAPS, further investigations being conducted on the matter by police we hope to get to the bottom of this and ultimately stop it.
Illegal waste dumping
The municipality has previous experienced the challenge of illegal dumping of waste from various corners of Kokstad, community was urged to refrain from such activity as it is against the municipal bylaws and law will be enforced to perpetrators.
Once again there we have noticed that such actions are recurring. I take this opportunity to remind residence once more that, it is an illegal act to dump waste where it is not allowed to do so. Once again the waste management bylaw read as follows;
21 (1) No person shall dump, deposit, discharge, spill or release waste or cause or permit such waste to be dumped, discharged, spilled or released, whether or not the waste is in container or receptacle, in or at any place, whether publicly or privately owned, including but not limited to vacant land, rivers, waterways, catchments, sewers and storm water drains, except in a container or at a place which has been specially indicated, provided or set apart for such purpose.
