AMAN reportedly ran head-first into a traffic light pole at a busy intersection on Monday, breaking the metal from the ground and sending it crashing onto a taxi.
The incident, which according to a source left bystanders laughing, was caught on Safe City cameras.
According to the camera operators who keep watch over the city centre, at about 7am, two men were seen trying to apprehend another man wearing a striped shirt and cap on Church Street.
With the man tightly held down, the men escorted the unknown man towards Retief Street where an angry group of about 20 people were pointing at him.
It is believed that the man broke free from his captors and bolted across the road where he slammed face-first into a traffic light pole.
The impact uprooted the traffic signal structure and it fell onto a taxi parked behind it.
It is unclear what happened to the man.
The police said the man was not found and they are uncertain of his whereabouts.
When Safe City’s reaction unit arrived at the scene, they reportedly spoke to the taxi driver who gave his account of the incident.
The passenger side of the taxi was damaged and live wires were exposed on the side of the road
