IN order to communicate with parents and upgrade the level of education in Dambuza, Sanzwili Primary hosted its second awards ceremony last Thursday.
The aim of the awards is to encourage pupils to work hard and grow their vocabulary said principal Thulani Zuma.
Grade 1 to Grade 7 pupils were awarded trophies and certificates for their hard work.
“This is the second time the school is hosting the ceremony. When we started it last year we vowed that each year we would up the standard. We have seen a lot of dedication from pupils during the course of the year.
“They work hard because they know they will reap what they sow.
“We want to shift away from the belief that township schools are different from town schools. We want to produce pupils who are not scared to take the podium and speak in a crowded room,” said Zuma.
The ceremony also opened doors for pupils to receive bursaries to further their education.
“We have Grade 7 pupils who were given bursaries to further their education at the Edendale Technical School. This opens doors for our pupils and we want to see it continuing. We are putting Dambuza on the map and we want parents to be proud of their children.”
Guests at the event included Nafisa Zondi from Dambuza Community Trust, who motivated pupils,
Department of Education officials and various principals from other schools. The award ceremony for Grade R will take place today. Zuma urged local business people to lend a hand by sponsoring such ceremonies.
