The ANC’s chief whip in the Free State, Neels van Rooyen, described his recent disappearance and reappearance as a “hiatus”.
Van Rooyen was found on Tuesday, 25 July, following his disappearance on Sunday, 23 July, from his Fleurdal home. His fiancé reported him missing when he did not come back home the following day.
“This debacle came about when my daughter said that my medical tests indicate that I suffer from fatigue. That is what sparked my sudden need to take a breather,” said Van Rooyen.
According to Van Rooyen, he spent his Sunday watching Idols and resting and feels much better now.
In a statement issued by the Free State ANC on Van Rooyen’s behalf, they said that he is back to his family abode safely, unharmed and in a fully conscious state after a brief two-day hiatus.
On Wednesday (26/07) Van Rooyen reported for duty at his office.
