The collapse of the Marquard Dam due to heavy rainfall could result in residents experiencing a water supply crisis.

The dam reportedly collapsed on Sunday (07/02) as water levels rose, exceeding the dam’s capacity.

According to Phillip Strydom, DA councillor in the Setsoto Municipality, the dam had been deteriorating due to a lack of maintenance.

“This is troubling, and the crisis of water supply has now reached a boiling point,” he added.

“The dam has been playing a pivotal role in supplying the Marquard community with water since 2016.”
