Unemployed male youth are often seen fixing potholes in the badly damaged roads of Bloemfontein townships, like these four who were spotted on Friday (15/01). They braved heavy rainfall to fix potholes on the road running through Turflaagte, en route to Phelindaba. These young men use gravel to improve the road, in exchange for a fee ranging from R1 to R2 by motorists who voluntarily make the payment. Due to recent rains, the condition of some roads has worsened, forcing motorists to drive on the side of the road to avoid having their vehicles’ wheels plunging into submerged potholes.
