Every December the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) encourages people to take time during their holidays to donate blood.

Blood collections are typically low during holiday periods.

The SANBS needs to collect 3 000 units of blood daily to meet the demand for patients in need in South Africa’s private and public hospitals.

According to Jana Wallace, head of donor donations, the SANBS is thankful for everyone who considered those in need by giving their time and the gift of life.

“On behalf of the blood recipients, their loved ones and the SANBS – thank you. We appreciate every donation made and your continued support and dedication to this vital cause,” Wallace said.

Apart from the normal blood donation centres, there will be several blood donation opportunities in Bloemfontein during December:

  • Mimosa Mall (Game Court): 17 to 22 December and 24, 27, 28 and 31 December;
  • Botshabelo Mall (opposite Romans Pizza): 18, 20, 24, 28 and 31 December;
  • Loch Logan Waterfront (in front of Dischem): 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 27, 28 and 31 December; and
  • Twin City (in front of Capitec): 21, 24, 27 and 28 December.
