A Bloemfontein-based rock group, Black Dog, is set to enthral when performing at its second rock show at Aasvoëlklub in Kelly’s View, Bloemfontein.

The rock show, to be held on Friday (23/08), is a yearly event. This year it marks its seventh year of offering rock fans a great musical experience.

The Black Dog name was inspired by the Led Zeppelin song called “Black Dog”.

The band’s motto is “Raw, Loud, Never Sweet”.

“A huge, black Great Dane that belonged to Nic Klopper was photographed while licking windows, a favourite habit of his,” Janene Klopper, band manager, explains.

“This picture was used for posters and although the picture looks fierce, Jester, the great Dane, was a real puppy that tried to fit his 70 kg body onto your lap whenever he got the chance.”

The band members are versatile: they do vocals and play various instruments. Nic Klopper plays keys, lead guitar and vocals, Danny Benton is on percussion and vocals, Skye Klopper on drums and vocals, Chris Smith on lead guitar and John Smit on bass.

Skye is the youngest member joining the group of experienced men. The youthful member plays drums in the typical rock style required for this genre.

The group will take rock lovers down memory lane featuring music of the great rockers such as Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Joan Jett, Deep Purple, Golden Earring and many more.

Tickets for the show costs R100 per person . The show will start at 20:00.
