The Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, will at its spring graduation ceremony award 13 masters and seven doctorate degrees.
The graduation will be held on Friday (06/09) at the Bloemfontein campus and 631 graduates will receive their degrees.
The highlight will be the university conferring an honorary doctorate in Marketing Management on Dr Brand Pretorius in recognition of his exceptional record in business leadership.
Dan Maritz, CUT spokesperson, said the institution would acknowledge Pretorius for his immense contribution to business.
In May 1991 the University of the Free State (UFS) conferred an honorary professorship in Business Management on Pretorius, and this was followed by the University of Johannesburg (UJ) honouring him in 2001.
Pretorius was appointed a fellow at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in November 2007.
He held a number of management positions in research, planning, sales and marketing. His ability saw him appointed managing director of Toyota SA Marketing in 1988.
In March 1995 he joined McCarthy Motor Holdings, as chief executive.
Today, the group employs 7000 people, has an annual turnover in excess of R20bn and it sells approximately 75 000 new and used vehicles annually.
Brand retired as chief executive officer of McCarthy and as an executive director of the Bidvest Group on 1 March 2011.
