The Free State’s marking of last year’s National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) examinations is expected to be completed on 21 January.
Results will be released on 23 February.
The provincial Department of Education announced that 2 658 staff members are overseeing the marking at 23 centres across the province.
According to Tate Makgoe, MEC for Education, Covid-19 remains a big threat to the examination marking process, as its success is directly dependent on the availability of markers.
These sentiments followed a visit to the marking centre at Grey College in Bloemfontein on Thursday (07/01).
“We have put all safety measures in place to ensure compliance to Covid-19 regulations,” said Makgoe.
More than 49 000 candidates in the Free State wrote examinations for the 2020 academic year. Of these, more than 29 000 are reportedly full-time candidates for the NSC.
The Free State has a target pass rate of 90% for full NSC examinations, of which 40% are expected to be bachelor’s passes.
