The police in Qwaqwa have welcomed the sentencing of Mahlomola Issac Makau Mokoena (31) to effective 23 years imprisonment.
The Bloemfontein High Court sentenced the accused on 23 February to 55 years for five rape cases. However, he will serve 23 years in prison after the court ruled sentences run concurrently.
Sgt Mmako Mophiring, spokesperson of the police cluster, said there were ten more unresolved cases against Mokoena.
“The police are appealing to victims to come forward to resolve these cases. According to records, the accused had committed several acts of rape between 2014 and 2016. He raped women inside their homes and at open places. The age of his victims ranged from young to mature.”
Part of the hearings of the 15 rape cases were also heard in the Thabo Mofutsanyana Child and Justice Centre in Phuthaditjhaba and in the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court.
