THE chief financial officer of the Mantsopa Local Municipality, Khokane Matsie (35), and the Setsoto Municipality security manager, Moshodi Moshodi (47), have appeared in the Ladybrand Magistrate Court on Monday (08/08) facing charges of the negligent use of a firearm and murder.

This followed the mystery surrounding the death of Matshidiso Jeanette Lisenyane (33), who was found with a bullet wound in her right ear on Saturday (06/08).

Capt. Phumelelo Dhlamini, police spokesperson, said Matsie was charged with the murder of his lover, Lisenyane.

Matsie’s friend, Moshodi, who is facing a charge of the negligent use of a fire-arm, was released on R1 000 bail.

The incident happened at the Ladybrand municipal flats in Church Street.

According to Dhlamini, the deceased was at home with Matsie when they were later joined by Moshodi.

Dhlamini said the trio were allegedly all enjoying each other’s company when the incident happened.

It is alleged that the two male friends were playing with a firearm and a shot went off and hit the deceased in the right ear, killing her instantly.

Dhlamini said the firearm used belongs to the Mantsopa Municipality.

Lisenyane was apparently working in the Mantsopa Municipality’s human resources section.

The Mantsopa Municipality’s municipal manager, Selby Selepe, denied that the gun belongs to the municipality.

Selepe told Netwerk24 that the incident happened outside working hours and said the authority is busy consulting its legal team to get advice on the matter.

Dhlamini said the court denied Matsie bail to allow the police to gather more evidence.

  • Both suspects will appear in the Ladybrand Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (16/08). Last April, a senior Free State municipal official, Maphobole Maphobole (33), was arrested for allegedly killing his wife.

He allegedly killed his wife and then went to visit his parents for the weekend with her body in the boot of his car.

He was caught when two vigilant homeless men spotted him burning her body on the Sunday morning in Winburg.

Maphobole was the director of corporate services in the Tokologo Local Municipality.
