Name changes to be discussed

A capacity workshop on name changes in the Free State will take place in the Indaba Auditorium at the Bram Fischer Building in Bloemfontein on Friday (20/10).

The event is scheduled to run from 09:00 to 16:00.

The workshop in Bloemfontein is an initiative of the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in partnership with the South African Geographical Names Council and the Department of Arts and Culture.

It is envisaged that participating stakeholders will, during the one-day workshop, engage in processes to be followed when standardising geographical names.

Procedures on name changes will also be followed in line with the government’s mandate on transformation processes, public participation and consultation.

Jurisdiction partnership and cooperation in all three spheres of government will also be taken into account in the procedures.
