
The beer brewing team of the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, walked away with two awards at the Brewing and Tasting Intervarsity Competition held on Tuesday, 8 December, making them the overall winners. The team, called CUTbrU, offered the best India pale ale and the best beer on show. The competition has been running for 13 years. It aims to promote home brewing and beer culture in South Africa, as well as enable students to enhance their knowledge about the beer industry. Held in Bloemfontein, the event was co-hosted by South African Breweries (SAB) and the CUT, in association with its Centre for Applied Food Sustainability and Biotechnology (CAFSaB) and the University of the Free State (UFS).
