TWO members of the South African Police Service, working in the Kimberley detective branch, were released on R500 bail each following a brief court appearance on Tuesday (05/01).
The pair, Detective WO Daniel Molebatsi Oliphant and his co-accused Sgt Zenda Alona van der Merwe appeared before the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on a charge of corruption.
According to Brig. Masebueng Mochologi-Maleeme, an internal investigation against both officers is underway after they allegedly solicited a R500 bribe in an effort to withdraw a case. The case in question is against a man who was arrested and charged for common assault
The incident happened, according to Mochologi-Maleeme on 31 December 2015 and their next court appearance will be on the 8 February 2016.
