School team worthy challenger in SAB League

The Brebner High School boys’ football team have set the pace in the SAB League of the Mangaung Metro.

The newly promoted side currently tops the log standing with 13 points. Brebner is one of the three unbeaten clubs in this third-tier football division administered by the South African Football Association (Safa).

The other two unbeaten teams are Pro Mates from Bloemfontein and Mathaithai from Botshabelo.

Brebner have sent the signal they would be one of the teams to watch in this league to challenge for promotion to the second-tier rank.

They have beaten seasoned campaigners such Kingston and Kodisang and drew with Bloemfontein Celtic.

The school team has won four matches and drawn just one, while their closest challenger, Mates, are in second place with the same points – 13.

Brebner is at the helm of the SAB League table due to superior goal tally, 16 goals, as opposed to the 15 goals scored by second-placed Mates.

Knowledge Stars and Mathaithai, both from Botshabelo, are in third and fourth position with 12 points and 10 points, respectively.

Brebner, Mates and Mathaithai could extend their unbeaten records with wins in their league matches on Saturday (19/10).

Brebner host Young Santos at the Brebner High School and Mathaithai will tackle James FC at the Clive Solomon Stadium, while Mates will take on Ikaleng FC at the Mmbana Stadium in Thaba Nchu.

A win for Brebner in Saturday’s match will see them maintain the top spot, and this will give them significant grounds in the challenge for promotion to the ABC Motsepe League.
