Suspect arrested for dagga

THE Vrede Crime Prevention Police Unit arrested a 58-year-old man from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal with plastic bags containing dagga hidden with blankets at the back of his bakkie on its way to Gauteng.

The crime prevention team of Const. Sipho Moloi, Mbutana Motsoeneng, Richard Mokoena and Mbokeleng Khanye were patrolling the R103 outside Vrede on Sunday (24/01) at approximately 06:00 when they spotted a suspicious white Toyota Hilux with GP registration plates.

Sgt Mmako Mophiring, police spokesperson, said they had stopped the bakkie and searched it. “At the back they discovered a blanket that covered 20 plastic bags containing dagga with an estimated street value of R60 000. The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear before the Vrede Magistrate’s Court soon facing a charge of possession of dagga,” he said.
