Five citizens of Lesotho have been arrested in connection with the killing of fellow countryman Matee Mpiti (40).
They briefly appeared in the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday (26/10) facing a charge of murder.
The suspects are Mohau Leseba (41), Moshoeshoe Letela (21), Thabang Seleso (24), Khauta Mohaladi (32) and Molifi Makgalemele (29). They remain in custody and are expected to reappear in court on 2 November.
According to the police’s preliminary investigation the suspects are linked to Mpiti’s killing on 17 October.
Brig. Motantsi Makhele, spokesperson for the provincial police, said after the victim had been murdered, his body was torched in an open space between Extension 11 and Zone 8 in Meqheleng, Ficksburg.
He said an eyewitness had reportedly seen the suspects overpower Mpiti.
