Two members of the Born to Kill gang, which is notorious for brutal killings in Bloemfontein and Botshabelo, were each sentenced to 45 years’ imprisonment, suspended for ten years.
The Bloemfontein Regional Court sentenced Lehlohonolo Makhoane (21) and Masixole Mthi (21) on Friday (06/04) after finding them guilty of murder, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
They had killed Moeketsi Sesing (18) after robbing him of his cellphone.
According to Sgt Mosili Ntsika, provincial police spokesperson, Sesing died of multiple stab wounds.
They also robbed Sesing’s friend of his cellphone and left him with a severe stab wound to the head.
The victims were attacked in January 2016 in Masike Street, Rocklands, Bloemfontein.
“The gang members were on a robbing spree,” Ntsika said.
“They attacked the victims during a New Year’s celebration Sesing died of multiple stab wounds, and his friend survived with an open wound to the head.”
Ntsika said the guilty each received 15 years on the charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances. According to Ntsika, the case had to be reinstated before it could be finalised.
“Initially it was struck off the roll, after which Sgt Sechaba Matli took over investigation. It resulted in a successful prosecution and sentencing.”
