THE house that for over the years has been the home of various chief magistrates, the last one to lived there being Mr Van Rooyen, is fast becoming vandalised and may soon be occupied by elements that will have nothing good but criminal intent occupying them as is the case with some houses in the upper section of our town.
May the national and provincial Departments of Public Works do the audit of all the government properties in this area and elsewhere including railways. Transnet and have a public auction if they are no longer serving the purpose originally built for.
Editor’s note: “Concerned taxpayer” - two years ago this house was brought to the attention of the Greytown Gazette Editor, but an equally concerned taxpayer had actually reported the vandalisation several times to the powers that be, but to no avail.
A photograph and report was published in the Greytown Gazette in the hope that it would trigger action on the part of the departments concerned, but as you quite rightly report, nothing has been done.
