THE umvoti Aids Centre hosted an awareness campaign at Macongco area in Muden on September 18.

According to UN Women, it is estimated that globally in the past 12 months 243 million women and girls aged 15–49 years were subjected to sexual or physical violence perpetrated by an intimate partner. The lock down restrictions that have been imposed in South Africa and worldwide in order to stop the spread of Covid-19, has unfortunately intensified such violence.

Gender-based violence include sexual and non-sexual physical violence, emotional abuse, and forms of child sexual abuse which is unfortunately common in South Africa.
