OUTSTANDING rugby player Luyanda Zondi, who matriculated from Greytown High School last year, has now been capped as a junior Sharks player and a brilliant future is being predicted for the young player.
Whilst at school, Luyanda achieved a range of awards, including Junior Rugby Player of the Year twice. He played first team at the age of 16 and last year captained the GHS team. He was also awarded rugby player of the year and achieved full rugby and academic colours.
Luyanda was awarded a full sports science bursary, excluding residence, by UKZN after making it to the final Craven week trials.
He is currently studying at UKZN Westville Campus and, when at home, plays for the Greytown Giants.
Luyanda is prolific in attack and devastating in defence; he was awarded best defensive player by the club in his junior year, 2017, and scored the most tries in that same season.
The Zondi family and current managers of this brilliant young man appeal to Umvoti Municipality, rugby players, and any other interested parties to make Luyanda's dream a reality.
Sponsorship to the amount of R6 500 is required for him to take part in the upcoming Sharks tour, which takes place next week
Should anyone be interested in sponsoring Luyanda, please contact Nduh Zondi on 084 615 5445.
Chairperson of the Sharks Youth Club Rugby, Rudi Havenga, said: “We do not like to omit quality players from the Tour purely because of their affordability.”
