THE year is in full swing and our pupils took to the sports field last week needing to find additional fixtures for our growing number of cricket teams. Our 1st XI played Greytown High, who made 71 runs, all out (Joel Pope, five wickets). Hermannsburg replied with 72 runs in 11 overs for the loss of one wicket to win by nine wickets. Man of the match was Joel Pope. Sadly, the U15 match was cancelled due to the weather.
In the primary school, our young team faced off against Wembley College, who won the match, our Zail Rubieparsad taking two wickets and a run-out. On Thursday the team played against New Hanover, who batted first and made 55 runs. Our boys replied with 56 for four (Julian Königkrämer 23 not out) to win the match by six wickets.
Our tennis girls played against Treverton and won 4-2, with Awande Mbuli winning 9-0 and going on to the Midlands trials this week. Four of the tennis girls also played in the Smythe League, with mixed success, while our sports co-ordinator, Mrs Walton attended an officials course for swimming to stay up to date with the latest rules and news in the swimming world.
Last Friday our high school pupils descended on the school dam to tidy up the area for the aQuellé Hermannsburg Mudman this weekend, 4 February, which promises once again to be the highlight of the Mudman series. If you have not already entered there is still time - bring the family as there are events for all ages and abilities.
