THE inter-house swimming gala, held last Friday, was the culmination of weeks of spirited yet good-natured rivalry between our two sports houses, Bushbuck and Reedbuck.

The swimmers swam with commitment and every position was contested as Reedbuck surged to an early lead and maintained it throughout the day, winning the spirit cup as well. Congratulations go to Reedbuck and the individual achievers: Akiwe Sidu and Keryn du Preez (U8 Champions), Ariya Khan and Daniel Surendorff (U10 Champions), Liam Uys and Shaakirah Ebrahim and Desireé Surendorff (U12 Champions), Liam Uys (Junior Victor Ludorum) and Shaakirah Ebrahim and Desireé Surendorff (joint Junior Victrix Ludorum), Neo Blackburn and Siena Kimble (U14 Champions), Michael Nell and Sonja de Wet (U15 Champions), Jarmin Claassen and Lila de Wet (U16 Champions), Dieter Volker and Lydia Köhne (Open Champions) and Sonja de Wet (Senior Victrix Ludorum) and Michael Nell and Jarmin Claassen (joint Senior Victor Ludorum).

Our thanks go to the parents, the officials and the swimmers for another successful inter-house gala.

The U15 cricketers played Wartburg’s U15 team, with Wartburg setting a target of 121 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs (Cuan Malyon 2 for 14, Neo Blacburn 1 for 17 and Benjamin Rabe 1 for 20). Hermannsburg replied with 55 for 9 after their 20 overs (Neo Blackburn 11).

As our pupils and their teachers enjoy the mid-term break this week, we look forward to the primary school’s mini-olympiade against various other schools, hosted at Hermannsburg from March 2 to 3, and the High School Open Day for prospective 2019 Grade 8s and their parents on March 10 and 11. Come and find out what makes an education at Hermannsburg something special!
