CRUEL, irresponsible, anti-social individuals in various parts of South Africa are making money through organised dog fights in which two dogs are incited to fight to the death or sustain such horrendous injuries they cannot survive.
But not only are the dog owners responsible for this evil so are the "sick" people who support, watch and bet on the outcome of such fights.
In South African law it is a crime to be involved, own, keep or train animals to be used for fighting. It is a crime to incite animals to fight. It is a crime to allow fighting on property owned or rented. It is a crime to promote animal fighting for money fighting is a developing underground activity in urban and rural areas in South Africa and animal abuse has close links to other criminal activities.
It promotes a lack of respect for the law, insensitivity for suffering, and an encouragement and enthusiasm for violence. The National Council of SPCAs offers a reward of up to R15 000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of dog fighters.
