JUST over one thousand new voters, 1 198, registered in Umvoti during the registration campaign weekend throughout South Africa on March 10 and 11.
According to Chris Naidoo, Umvoti Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) a total of 9 549 visited one of the 90 voting stations which open in the district that weekend.
Of this total, 6 842 checked their voting details were correct and 1 509 had moved to a new voting district.
One of the main objects of the registration weekend was to obtain outstanding addresses of registered voters.
Umvoti voters roll currently has 3 420 voters without addresses — during the registration weekend addresses were updated for 342 voters.
In the other three Umzinyathi districts addresses are still required for: Msinga
6 720 voters, Nqutu 7 728 voters and
eNdumeni 4 353 voters.
South Africa’s next general election is expected to take place in May 2019.
