YESTERDAY, Tuesday 23 August, the first Council meeting of the newly elected Umvoti Municipal Councillors took place in Greytown Town Hall. Unfortunately, due to printing-press deadlines and the fact that the meeting started half an hour late, the Greytown Gazette editor regrets that due to these time restraints, she was unable to cover the meeting - full details will be published in next week's issue.
Members of the public attended in full force - the hall was packed and a loudspeaker was erected for the crowd outside. Apart from an obvious show of many SAPS members, bodyguards and security firms, the meeting was attended by KZN VIPs, a number of Inkosi, the Greytown magistrate and more, and there were a number of reporters and photographers from various media outlets.
In hopefully an indication of meetings to start on time in future, the 15-strong ANC majority were seated at 10.05am.
Make sure you get the next issue of the Greytown Gazette to update on who will be the heading the Umvoti Council for the next five years.
