Pupils strive for excellence at Readers’ competition

PUPILS from Hermannsburg Combined School took part in the Readers’ Cup competition at a district level which was held at Dundee Education Centre on August 1 and August 2.

The pupils got the following positions. In poetry position one was Grade 8 by Silindokuhle Mkhize. Position one in a motivational talk for Grade 9 was Nokwanda Ngidi, position one in a prepared speech on a Women’s Day celebration for Grade 12 was Amanda Maphumulo, position two in a book review for Grade 10 were Nokubonga Ntuli, Mandisa Mthembu, Andile Dladla and Londiwe Mchunu. Position two in a prepared speech for a matric farewell for the class of 2019 for Grade 12 was Luyanda Msane.

Prior to this, the pupils held the first leg of the Readers’ Cup competition at the Eshane community hall on July 18.

Pupils were thrilled with their results, having earned five position ones and one position two. They competed in the following: poetry (position one) — Silindokuhle Mkhize; motivational talk (position one) — Nokwanda Ngidi and Philile Nene; book review (position one) — Nokubonga Ntuli, Londiwe Mchunu, Mandisa Mthembu and Andile Dladla; dialogue (position two) — Nomcebo Dlamini, Thobeka Shezi and Bongumenzi Mbeje; prepared speech for a matric farewell function (position one) — Luyanda Msane; and prepared speech for a Women’s Day celebration (position one) — Amanda Maphumulo.
