IT started in Hermannsburg 18 years ago – KZN’s first Mudman - an off-road multi-sport event with running, swimming, canoeing and cycling. The Hermannsburg Mudman is organised and run by the staff, parents and pupils, which not only builds up school spirit but is also a fund-raiser.
Two other Midlands schools copied the idea bringing in professional sports organisers to run their events as a fund-raiser and when another school joined Mudman became a series with each one having its own flavour. The same main events run throughout the four.
aQuellé hosts the four race series in February, March and April each year. The series include a 750m swim or four kilometre paddle, a 20km bike ride and five kilometre trail run.
Mudskippers caters for age groups from preschool to under 12. In February younger competitors can take part in the Mudman events, but must be accompanied by a parent. The Mudskippers swim in a pool, cycle and undertake shorter runs.
aQuellé Mudman starts the 2017 series at Hermannsburg this Saturday 4 February.
