DRIVING along the Upper Highway area one is bound to come across murals painted by Kloof artist Gifford Duminy.
For the talented 23-year-old, art comes naturally to him and he loves using his talent to beautify the area. Duminy regularly offers his talents to NPOs and NGOs in the area, and his most recent charitable donation was to the Kloof Conservancy where he has donated a large painting of a Village Weaver bird.
Speaking to the Fever, Conservancy chairperson Paolo Candotti said they are extremely grateful for the donation. “We would like to sell this to raise money for Keep Kloof Beautiful Association who do a great job of keeping key areas of Kloof well maintained and attractive with well planted aisles and landscaped areas.
“The painting is largish so it would look great in corporate office/business premises or in a double volume area in a large house.”
Candotti said that the organisation hopes to raise at least R2 000. “Remember that every rand paid for this painting will go towards making Kloof more attractive - so you get a great painting and contribute to the beautification of Kloof at the same time,” he added.
Speaking about his love to give back and his passion of nature, Duminy said that as he grew up he felt close to nature and uses art to express this.
“I think there is so much inspiration to be gathered from nearly every corner of life. Nature is my biggest inspiration for my art,” he said.
He said that his personal role models in the form of public figures are Alan Watts, Noam Chomsky, Alan Watts, Prince Ea, Dalia Lama, Mahatma Gandhi and Richard Dawkins.
“It’s my purpose is to add colour to and brighten up the environment of NPO’s, charities and other organisations who are the good people in our society- the people who make a difference to those who need it.”
Duminy has painted a Kingfisher at the SPCA and a Humming bird at Embocraft Skills training centre in Bothas Hill and many others.
He encouraged the Upper Highway community to support the organization and purchase the painting.
