AFTER 42 years of service at the Hillcrest SAPS working in administration, Upper Highway resident Carol Aingsworth is retiring.
Aingsworth joined the Fisher Street Point head office on June 25, 1975 typing accident reports.
In 1979 she transferred to Pinetown Police Station. From September 2, 1991 to 2004 Aingsworth worked at Hillcrest Police Station.
After selling her house she relocated to Upington, but could not stay away from Hillcrest and eventually returned on July 26, 2006.
Although looking forward to retirement Aingsworth said she will miss her “men and women in blue” and helping members of society.
“I am a people person, and I will miss being at the station assisting the community. Being part of the Hillcrest SAPS is in my blood - it is who I am.
“It is bitter sweet for me to go on retirement, but I think it’s long overdue,” said Aingsworth.
Captain Linzi Smith Hillcrest SAPS communications officer said Aingsworth is an asset at the Hillcrest police.
“She was dedicated and extremely hardworking. She would work until the early hours of the morning, only to arrive back at work at 6am the same day. She conducted her duties efficiently and effectively.
“Having Carol leave this institution is a great loss and she will be sorely missed. It is indeed comforting to know that there are members like Mrs Aingsworth that serve this organisation in such an exemplary fashion.”
