MAKING it to the KZN U9 touch rugby team at the age of six made Shae Muchna realise that her love for sports is beyond her imagination.

Now in Grade 10, the Hillcrest High School pupil recently represented South Africa at the U18 level at the Federation of International Touch (FIT) Junior World Cup Touch Rugby Tournament in Malaysia.

At the event, the South African team won the bronze medal, behind Australia and New Zealand, after playing round robin matches against India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S. (three matches were played a day).

Shae’s passion for sport is evident in her diehard attitude, with the pupil having revealed that, even after a recent knee operation, she had never thought of quitting sports but, rather, she fell in love with it even more.

“Well, I haven’t come across any challenges that had me think of quitting because I’m not a quitter but I’m a fighter,” she said.

When asked how she overcomes hurdles in her life, The Hillcrest High pupil said: “Setting small goals and aiming for those, and reminding myself that it’s meant to be fun, really helps me not have any challenges in my sporting journey.”

She thanked her parents for always encouraging her, saying: “My parents definitely do most of the encouraging as well as my team members and coaches.

“My parents inspire me to be the best I can be because they make sure that I can do what I’m capable of doing and not give up.”

In conclusion, Shae said that if someone has a dream they should never give up; people should always stick to their goals and ask for help if they need it.
