LAST week Kloof and Highway SPCA members waved goodbye to Demi, its resident kennel dog.
Demi arrived at the SPCA in 2011 when she was brought in by inspectors as she was severely emaciated, almost completely hairless and frightened.
It took weeks for the staff to gain her trust and from all their hard work and efforts a beautiful blonde, friendly and humorous dog emerged, full of character with so much love to give.
A decision was made to adopt Demi into the SPCA family and she would live at the SPCA as the office dog until the right person came along.
She has spent four happy years at the SPCA, having the full run of the SPCA premises and offices and sitting in on many meetings and has crept into staff, volunteers and visitors hearts.
Dedicated volunteer dog walker, Gavin Illingworth, is now the proud owner of Demi and they have always shared a special bond and he offered to adopt her and have her join his family of two Labradors and a Spaniel.
“Demi has seen hundreds of dogs going home to their forever homes and finally it was her turn,” said the SPCA outreach officer Lisa Gadd.
“Many happy tears were shed by staff and volunteers as they bid her farewell, but they are thrilled that she has found such an incredible owner and loving home.”
“Thank you so much Gavin, and we look forward to regular visits from Demi and yourself.”
