THE Volvo S60 Polestar recently arrived in SA and became an overnight sensation as most of the 25 cars allocated to the local market were pre-sold weeks before the units even arrived in the country.

The Volvo S60 Polestar is the latest, and most exciting, addition to the S60 range. Delivering a thrilling 258kW and a 0-100 km/h time of just 4,9s, this a true driver’s car.

In fact, Polestar has been quoted as saying “this is the car that our racing driver’s drive to work.”

The Volvo S60 Polestar is designed to carry through Polestar’s engineering philosophy and deliver an engaging, precise and confident driving experience in all weather, on all roads and in all seasons.

This is not a car that you only take out on special occasions or perfectly sunny days – it is a car built to be enjoyed 365 days a year.

Development of the car has been on-going over the past few years, picking up from the Polestar C30 and S60 Concept cars as well as the Australian S60 Polestar race car. Thousands of development kilometres have been driven on twisty mountain roads, on the Autobahn and test tracks from the south of Europe to the frozen north of Sweden.

Volvo Car South Africa brought in a limited number of the MY16 Volvo S60 Polestar’s priced at R735 000 each.

Volvo S60 - powerful and elegant

Scandinavian design is exemplified by beautiful, elegant shapes and sleek surfaces without the clutter and this can be seen in every aspect of the Volvo S60.

Details such as the wide grille, daylight running lights and a LED light guide on the tail lamps, add to the Volvo S60’s striking look.

The interior is a combination of luxurious upholstery, Scandinavian wood inlays, and silk metal frames around the air vents and light controls. This all combines to create a warm and comfortable cabin.

Volvo Cars and Polestar

Volvo Cars recently acquired 100 per cent of the Polestar company and brand, which means that Polestar will now be used as the model name for special high performance Volvos.

Volvo and Polestar share a long history – the two companies have been working together in motor sport since 1996 and in recent years signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop Volvo Polestar derivatives that combine a comfortable Volvo driving experience with a very high level of power and handling for the performance-minded customer.

The Polestar racing team remains under the control of Christian Dahl, the former owner of Polestar, and has been renamed as Polestar Cyan Racing.

Polestar Cyan Racing, FIA WTCC and Thed Björk:

Following the acquisition of Polestar by Volvo Cars, it was announced that Polestar Cyan Racing will enter the FIA World Touring Car Championship in 2016 with two Volvo S60 Polestar race cars as the start of a multi-year programme.

Reigning STCC champion Thed Björk, three-time STCC champion Fredrik Ekblom and multiple STCC race winner Robert Dahlgren are part of the development work of the WTCC programme.

Further information on the 2016 WTCC Polestar Cyan Racing programme, including driver line-up, will be revealed in due course.
