THE cleanliness of communities has been a major concern, with casual littering and illegal dumping having become common practice over recent years.
Various interventions have been put in place this past year to address this.
In order to strengthen the capacity of our cleansing teams, new grass-cutting equipment, two new refuse compactor trucks and two new mesh trucks have been procured. Twenty new skip bins have also been purchased.
A Mayoral Clean-Up intervention was launched in June 2017 and has thus far been implemented at hot spots in Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, Oyster Bay and Sea Vista. The intervention will be rolled out to all towns.
The programme is part of the build up to a sustainable waste management project, set to be launched in 2017/18, which will involve community entrepreneurs.
Public education has also been part of our efforts to keep Kouga clean.
