OPEN water swimmers will be able to challenge themselves this Saturday at Marina Martinique when the inaugural Marina Marathon Swim takes place.
Swimmers will have a choice of a 3.5km, 7km, 10,5km or a 14km swim on the day.
“We have mapped out a 3.5km loop around the Marina and swimmers can choose how many laps they want to swim,” says event organiser Brenton Williams.
“This will be a unique challenge as not many swimmers in the Eastern Cape have gone past 7km or 8km. The event will certainly take people out of the comfort zones.”
The water is still very warm in the Marina at around 26°C and swimmers are encouraged to swim in costumes and not in wetsuits.
Entries are open at www.swimmingplus.com. Swimmers are invited to join the JBay Open Water Swim Club at a training session at the Marina today at 17:45. The swimmers meet near the Marina Wharf restaurant.
Learn to swim lessons also start next week at Edge Fitness Clubs and there are limited slots still available in the Learn to swim programme as well as the squads. For information, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
