AFTER 28 years, Tolbos, synonymous with Patensie and surrounding areas, received a rejuvenating facelift and now boasts a contemporary, yet homely feel.
Some 140 guests from near and far attended their relaunch on Friday, August 19 - partying until 03:00 the next morning.
In June this year, Carin Scheepers bought out Toska Joubert (former co-owner). She and her mom, Hetsie Scheepers, undertook to breathe some new life into the establishment. This includes a new corporate identity with a contemporary logo and facade.
The extended wine collection includes great new vineyard finds, as well as well-known South African favourites.
Alongside the old Tolbos favourites, such as the homemade ciabatta, melktert, rusks and jam, Carin will be extending the wares to include deli products such as cheeses. And menu changes are ongoing.
Trading times have been extended to include suppers – when speciality platters and select meals can be enjoyed on the newly renovated patio, next to the fire. During summer, alfresco dining under the trees in the extended courtyard is certain to be a hit with Kouga locals.
Tourists and travellers remain a top priority for Hetsie, Carin and Tolbos staff who have a wealth of information about the local attractions, accommodation, activities and routes.
A great place to stop and stock-up before entering the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve, the new-look Bistro-Deli is ideally situated in the town of Patensie across from the Patensie Citrus pack house, in Fred Ferreira Road. It remains a convenient meeting spot for locals – whether they are on a quick lunch break, enjoying coffee with friends or taking in a sundowner after a hard day on the farm.
The Tolbos team also gladly caters for events, and many a jolly birthday party has been held on the premises. Future plans include hosting wine tastings, themed evenings and guest chefs.
So next time you visit the Valley of Citrus, be sure to roll into the Tolbos: Bistro-Deli-Info. Experience the warmth and friendly hospitality that this dynamic mom-and-daughter duo and their staff continue to provide, but now with a modern twist.
