ORGANISERS of the Pietermaritzburg Food Festival have promised to blow Pietermaritzburg residents away with a taste experience they will never forget.
The PMB food Festival will makes its debut on September 23, at the Golden Horse Casino, from 10 am until 11 pm.
The festival is a lifestyle event that celebrates South African diversity and culture through food and is organised by Chilla Nathi Concept in partnership with One Nation, which is the mother body for Broadway Lifestyle.
Sbonga Shelembe, who is one of the organisers, said they decided to host this event because they want to bring communities and families together to celebrate their diversity and culture with food.
“Food always brings people together. This is going to be a festival where all nationalities will come together.
“There is a lot of talent in Pietermaritzburg so we want people to come out to experience it and others to show it at this festival.
“Since the initial stages of this festival, we already have big plans for it going forward. We are expecting more than 50 stalls on the day,” he said.
Thuthu Mkhize from BMW, who are one of the partners of the event, said: “This is a first time for this but we already see where it is going. This is an exciting journey with other partners. What makes us more excited is that it has created job opportunities aimed at empowering our youth. We are taking food culture to the next level — a level that no one has ever thought that Pietermaritzburg will go to.
“This is not just an event but it is now a brand. We see a bright future ahead and I am looking forward to the upcoming years,” said Mkhize.
Besides food, the festival also entails fashion and musical entertainment where it will feature some top DJs.
