Maritzburg United’s “Covid drought” continued last night as Eric Tinkler’s men went down 3-1 to Chippa United in the DSTV Premiership in Port Elizabeth by conceding two penalties and allowing Cameroon striker Bienvenue Eva Nga to grab the first hat-trick of the new season.

Coach Tinkler had his men flying high before Covid-19 interrupted world sport in March, but they have since gone 10 matches without a win in league and knockout action combined.

Six of those games were at the end of last season and the four this term have all been spirit-sapping defeats, three in the Premiership and one in the MTN8 knockout contest.
