THE mini-bus taxi protest in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday was “catastrophic” for business in the city.

That was the view of Melanie Veness, chief executive officer for the Pietermariztburg and Midlands Chamber of Business, who told said that businesses across the city were affected by the disruption.

Stores in some shopping centres were also forced to delay opening because their staff were caught up the traffic chaos. “It’s outrageous,” Veness said.
