ALL was not lost for the Edendale Technical High School soccer team after a 3-2, penalty shoot-out defeat by J.G Zuma High School in the Copa Coca-Cola KZN semi-finals because one of their players, Grade 8 pupil Siyamthanda Mfeka, got the “player of the tournament” nod.
Siyamthanda will be joining the Which Part Will You Play all-stars team to participate in the national finals in Bloemfontein.
The tournament, hosted by Coca-Cola, in conjunction with the South African Schools Football Association (Sasfa) was held on the weekend at Cato Manor sports ground.
Called the “perfectionist”, Siyamthanda was selected after being seen as a player who has the most perfect corners and free kicks.
Speaking after the tournament Siyamthanda said: “We were so close to winning the final match.
“I would’ve liked to see my whole team at the finals, but its okay, I will still raise our school flag and represent us well at the nationals.”
Copa Coca-Cola is a global football development initiative that gives millions of young football fans the opportunity to get together and celebrate their passion for football.
In addition Copa Coca-Cola will be picking one individual from each province who has shown they are playing a part in the development of young footballers.
Each one will be recognised with the title of “The Mentor” and rewarded by Coca-Cola for the contribution they are making towards the development of the youth.
