PIETERMARITZBURG dance teacher and enthusiast Judy Umraw, who has been teaching dance and movement since 2005, hopes that her love and passion for the art will continue to inspire and empower women of all ages.

Boasting an impressive resumé, Umraw has appeared on television multiple times and has performed at major international shows alongside some of Bollywood’s finest performers.

“I have been empowering women and the youth since 2005 through dance and movement and have also assisted many charity organisations in fundraising through dance and entertainment,” said Umraw.

Umraw not only hosts a dance class in Raisethorpe but also carries out various workshops in Pietermaritzburg, Durban, and Johannesburg.

“We teach and perform a unique blend of Yoga, Tai chi, Oriental, Bollywood, Spanish, Hip-Hop and Zulu dance genres,” said Umraw.

Umraw’s dance school will be performing an event at Sibiya Casino this weekend, from Friday until Sunday, which will incorporate local artists.

“These dances don’t only serve to entertain but offer a way to boost self-confidence and self-image for the new, young dancers who are performing them,” said Umraw.
