UNEASY Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp has begun preparing for the resumption of crucial league business this week with a new defender on the way in, but also with a massive hope that his players will follow instructions better and use their “football brains” more.
That’s because he felt they were “cr*p” from a tactical perspective in their 2-1 victory over lower-division Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup’s round of 32 at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday, especially in the goalless first half.
The German coach, who has scouted Serbian defender Dusan Stevic, says there are things his players need to figure out for themselves during matches, starting with the “six-pointer” against fellow stragglers Tshakhukhuma at the same venue this coming Friday, if they are to move away from the bottom end of the DStv Premiership standings sooner rather than later.
