TEN laptops were donated to Nobanda Primary School in Sweetwaters last Thursday.
These laptop were donated by Telkom after Nobanda Primary won the environmental competition which started in 2014.
Nobanda was one of 40 schools that entered the competition this year.
School principal Thula Shabalala said that they have been working together with a community project called Sidlangoludala Community Project throughout the whole competition.
“It was one of the requirements that schools work with a community project in teaching pupils about their school and the environment. Telkom then came to our school and interviewed our pupils to check how much they have learnt about their school and environment, and we won.
“We did not believe it when we received the call that we have a been selected as a winner. We are very excited about these laptops and we are very grateful to Telkom. It has always been our dream to have a fully equipped computer lab. It was a vision that the previous principal had before she left the school. We even changed one of the classrooms into a computer lab but we had no computers, until 10 old computers were donated to us few years back.
“These laptops are going to be a great help not only to pupils and teachers but to the community as a whole. We will now be able to learn about the technology and the pupils will be able to learn how to use computers,” Shabalala said. Shabalala said that the school now has a total of 20 computers. She said they hope to get more computers or laptops donated.“Right now pupils will have to work in pairs of two because we do not have enough computers and laptops at the but Telkom has promised us to come back and assist us.” Sidlangoludala also received two laptops for assisting the school throughout the competition.
